The Myth
According to most myths, Thetis, Achilles mother, was greatly concerned about her son("Achilles Bronze Age Warrior"). She wanted nothing more than for him to be immortal. To reach her goal, it's said that every day, she would burn him over a fire, and then dressed his wounds with ambrosial ointment. She would later hold him by his ankle and dunk him into the Styx River. This meant, he was indestructible everywhere but there...("Achilles"). Achilles then went to war in troy when he was older, and just like his prophecy said, died there.
His Fate
Achilles was meant to be a warrior. His prophecy said that he would die in Troy, which was where the Trojan War supposedly took place ("Achilles").
His Role in the Iliad
Achilles was the central character in The Iliad ("Characters in the Iliad."). He was an incredible war god in the Trojan War ("Achilles"). Odysseus asked Achilles to fight in the war, but Achilles was unaware that he was bound to die there. It is said that Achilles was shot by an arrow in is heel. His heel was the only place that had not been dipped into the Styx River, meaning it was the only vulnerable part of his body. According to most myths, the arrow was shot by Paris ("Learn About Achilles").
