Ancient Greeks felt strongly about their religion. Anything that had to do with their mythology surrounded their everyday lives. this pictures shows a vase that illustrated the Muses. There were many vases like this and they had many mythological beings on them.
Ancient Greek mythology filled
with gods and goddess of every kind, there were nine famous daughters of the
almighty Zeus and the goddess Mnemosyne; these were known as the Muses. The
names of these Muses were Clio, Euterpe, Thalia, Melpomene, Terpsichore, Erato,
Polyhymnia, Ourania, and Calliope. Each of these nine muses are in authority or
control over something. Clio presides with history, Euterpe controls music,
Thalia with comedy, Melpomene with tragedy, Terpsichore with dance, Erato with
elegy, Polyhymnia with lyric poetry, Ourania with astronomy, and Calliope in
authority of eloquence (Encyclopedia of Religion.)They were sister goddesses of music, poetry, dance, and
other intellectual actions and represent creativity and arts; they inspired
many Greek musicians and poets (The Greenhaven Encyclopedia of Greek and Roman Mythology). Olympus and Helicon were two sacred Greek mythological
mountains on which these nine daughters had lived. Some say there were only three Muses, but
have accepted the fact there may be nine (UXL Encyclopedia of World Mythology).

They are featured in Greek literature, especially.
