In earlier books written by Homer, the city of Troy was at war with Greece because the prince of Troy kidnapped the wife of the Spartan king, Helen. This is what started a series of events that led to the destruction of this incredible city of Troy. After fighting for supposedly ten years the Achilles were unable to break through the thick walls of Troy and rescue Helen. Since they could not break through the walls, they decided to trick the Trojans. The Archilles made a huge horse statue and left it outside the gates of Troy, the Trojans thought it meant the Greeks withdrew from the war so they brought it into the walls of their city to celebrate. However what they did not know is that inside that giant statue, there were hundreds of armed warriors that were ready to jump out and defeat Troy from the inside out. Still today, archeologists are not sure if the city Henrich uncovered was destroyed by natural disasters such as earthquakes, or the Trojan War (The Trojan War).
The city of Troy was always believed to be fake, or mythological because it was in books and archeologists had yet discovered it. There were a few people who believed it was real, and who had a passion for the books written by Homer such as, "The Iliad" and its sequel "The Odyssey". One of those believers was businessman Henrich Schielman, and throughout his life he loved reading about those books and was determined to find and uncover the truth about the city of Troy. After retiring from his successful business at age 41 he started digging for the lost city of Troy. After making many mistakes, and digging up too many layers of earth, Henrich discovered what he believed to be the city of Troy in what is now known as present day Turkey (The Discovery of Troy). He uncovered large walls, citadels, gateways and towers that were said to have been there around the same time that Homer was alive. To this day, there is no way to determine if this city certainty is the city people have read about for centuries, but as of right now, this is the most convincing lead archeologists have discovered so far (The Trojan War).
Here is a replica of the Trojan Horse used to save Helen, and caused the tragic downfall of the incredible city of Troy (Trojan Horse Replica).
