Calypso was a " a well-known nymph (minor Greek goddess). A daughter of the Titan Atlas, she ruled the far-off island of Ogygia" ("Calypso"). When Odysseus washed up on the shore of the island Ogygia after a shipwreck. Calypso and Odysseus " bargained with Odysseus. In exchange for eternal ageless immortality, Odysseus remained on the island" ("Calypso"). For every year Odysseus spent on this island he paid for every sin. He spent seven years on the island of Ogygia.
After seven years "Zeus sent Hermes to command that Odysseus be released" ("Calypso"). "To help Odysseus return home, Calypso showed him how to build a raft to sail home" ("Calypso"). In the end after seven year Calypso kept Odysseus on the island of Ogygia because she fell in love with him just like Circe.
