Hermes is widely known as the messenger to the gods, especially to Zeus, king of the gods. He would also bring souls to Hades, god of the underworld. Hermes is also the god of music, traveling, cheating, merchants, and young men. He was said to have invented the flute and the lyre. Hermes could have been seen as a young man with a brimmed hat with wings, shoes with wings, and carrying a staff. He is the son of Zeus and Maia. Statues of Hermes head are at corners and at gates around Athens, Greece, to guard people ("Deities of Greece: Ancient World")
Most of Hermes myths show him as a trickster. However, he often helps people out. An example of this is how he gave Odysseus a plant to stop a spell that was put on him. (''Hermes")
Hermes likes using his sharp wit to his , and others, advantages, whether he knows it or not. He is a good thief and even wrestled a cow at one day old! ("Tricksters in Classic Mythology") He is impulsive, but very helpful at the same time!
